'Unite, Work for Poll Victory in 2016'

PUDUCHERRY: Former Union Minister and Congress leader V Narayanasamy has called upon party cadre to gear up for the party to independently contest the Assembly elections in all the 30 constituencies in the Union territory. He added that alliance would be decided later by AICC president Sonia Gandhi, which the party would abide by.

Speaking at a function in the Congress party office on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Thursday, Narayanasamy exhorted the Congress cadre to take a pledge to bring in Congress rule in the Union Territory in 2016.

Narayanasamy charged the ruling AINRC government with corruption and said the Congress should strive to end the misrule of the government.

Referring to his earlier charge that Rs 5 crore was obtained as commission in the free grinder and mixie scheme and AINRC functionary was involved in it, he said that the silence on the part of the government on the issue confirms it.

Moreover, he alleged, Rs 300 for a tonne of garbage was collected as commission in the garbage-clearing contract and Rs 3 per kg of rice was obtained as commission in the free rice scheme.

The party would take out a massive rally and demonstration against the misrule of  government shortly, he said.

Meanwhile, AICC general secretary in-charge of political affairs of Puducherry Mukul Wasnik on Thursday toured the flood affected areas on Bahour, Kirumampakkam, Kanniyakoil and assessed the situation of the people affected by the rains.
