Two 'Attack' Pandi Aides Arrested for Attempt to Murder Alagiri Son's Friend

MADURAI: The associates of ‘Attack’ Pandi, the main accused in the Pottu Suresh murder case, allegedly attempted to murder a close friend of former union minister M K Alagiri’s son Durai Dhayanidhi here on Saturday night.

Though the miscreants inflicted multiple stab injuries on S Ramakrishnan (37) of Andalpuram, doctors said he is out of danger.

He is at present recuperating at a private hospital in Madurai.

In a swift move, the city police arrested S Sagaya Praveen (30) and Mari alias Manimaran (25) on Sunday. They have been remanded and lodged at the Madurai Central Prison.

Sagaya Praveen, also an accused in Pottu Suresh murder case and now on bail, has confessed to the police that they attempted to eliminate Ramakrishnan as he prevented them from getting close to Alagiri’s family, said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

Alagiri and wife Kanthi visited Ramakrishnan at the hospital and enquired about his health condition on Saturday.

Their son Durai Dhayanidhi was out of town at the time of the incident.

Police said the incident occurred when Ramakrishnan went to a saloon at K Pudur around 11 pm for a hair cut.

When he was about to enter the shop, Praveen with a helmet covering his face intercepted him and stabbed him multiple times.

Shocked over the murder attempt, the hair stylist downed the shutters and escaped from the spot. Soon after, Praveen fled the spot in a waiting two-wheeler driven by Manimaran, said investigating officer Chakravarthy.

The duo had been following Ramakrishnan, who is a private financier on a bike right from the time he left his house, said the police.

Police sources said Praveen along with one Arockiya Prabhu, who was among the accused acquitted in the Dinakaran office attack case, has been a long-time associate of ‘Attack’ Pandi. Both had allegedly assisted Pandi in murdering ‘Pottu’ Suresh.

A senior police officer said that ‘Attack’ Pandi eliminated ‘Pottu’ Suresh because he isolated him from Alagiri’s family.

“Since they viewed Ramakrishnan as a barrier to get closer to Alagiri’s family, they decided to kill him,” police claimed citing Praveen’s confession.
