Saturday Schedule for Engineering Colleges to Compensate Leave

COIMBATORE: With more than two weeks having been lost due to rain and semester examinations being postponed, engineering colleges across the State are likely to function on Saturdays to compensate for the loss of days.

“Originally the end semester examination was scheduled to be held between November 12 and December 20. Due to the inclement weather in a few parts of the State, including Chennai, we have rescheduled the semester examinations, which were originally to be held between November 12 and 28 to December 21 and January 11, hoping that the rain will be over by the end of this week,” said R Raju, Additional Controller of Examinations, Anna University.

If the rain continues we would take a decision at that time and might be forced to postpone the examinations further, he added.

Though, western districts did not witness heavy rain like in Chennai or Cuddalore districts, the examinations were put off as Anna University would conduct the examination for all students commonly in the State.

University Registrar S Ganesan said, “Throughout the State same question paper will be given for all engineering students. That is the reason why examination could not be conducted in some parts of the State, even though there was no rain in those areas.”

To compensate the loss of working days due to the rain, Anna University is likely to work on Saturdays and reduce semester holidays.

“We can compensate the loss of working days in two ways, one by working on Saturdays the other by postponing or reducing the summer vacation,” Ganesan added.
