Seven Class XI Girls Have Liquor Party in School, Gets Expelled

NAMAKKAL : In a shocking incident, seven class XI girls of a government school at Tiruchengode in Namakkal district were found to have consumed liquor in the classroom while celebrating the birthday of one of their classmates.

After getting a tip-off about the incident on Saturday, the authorities of the School, expelled all the seven girls from the institution on Monday. Parents of four of the girls received the transfer certificate while the rest have yet to receive them.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that out of curiosity and adventure, two of the girls brought liquor and mixed it with soft drinks before serving them to their classmates, five of them consuming liquor for the first time.

The incident occurred when the girls were to take the second mid term test. These girls are said to have reached the school around 8 am with a plan to celebrate their classmate’s birthday with a bang.

Sources said, after consuming liquor some of them had vomited and in an attempt to hush it up, they cleaned the floor before the teachers arrived.

When the issue went viral on Tuesday, Collector V Dakshinamoorthy ordered an inquiry by the Chief Education Officer (CEO). Subsequently, the CEO S Gobidass visited the school and held inquiries.

However, the Collector said further action would be taken after holding a thorough probe.

“I have asked the CEO to hold a thorough probe into the incident.

He will question the students and the teachers and submit a report. Then we will decide on the next course of action,” Dakshinamoorthy told reporters.

The Collector also summoned the school authorities and teachers  and personally enquired about the liquor complaint.

“As soon as I got the information, I summoned the teachers and questioned them over the incident.” Dakshinamoorthy said.

Informed sources stated that the CEO was kept in the dark over the entire issue as the school authorities chucked the students out without bringing the matter to his notice.

Third Such Incident

This is the third time that students are facing action for taking liquor in the classroom in the district in recent times. In the first incident, seven boys studying in the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Tiruchengode were caught after taking liquor late last year, informed sources noted, adding they were immediately thrown out of the school.

More recently, four Plus One boys of the Government Higher Secondary School, located at Manickampalayam, near here, were caught while attending classes in an inebriated condition. All of them were shown the door but were admitted in two other government schools.

And now, sadly, it is the turn of the girls to resort to such an abominable act.
