TANGEDCO Urged to Upgrade Servers for Online Payment

VELLORE: The Pernambut Consumer Welfare Protection Society has asked the Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) to upgrade servers for facilitating online payment of electricity bills. A plea in this regard was made by the society president T Basheeruddin while participating in the consumer meet which was organized by the regional office of the TANGEDCO on Wednesday here.

Basheeruddin said that many consumers, who have opted to pay their bills online face delays because of outdated servers and hence fail to make payments on time.

TANGEDCO should therefore upgrade the servers and the gateway so that more consumers avail of online payment facilities.

He also pointed out that the requirement for consumers to keep the meters at the entrance of the houses and industries for assessors to make note of the power consumption reading was welcome.

The cost for moving the meters of old customers should be borne by TANGEDCO, while new customers may be charged for the service of placing meters in the front of their establishments or residences, he said.

While appreciating the Vellore region for taking an initiative to organize special camps to help consumers change the names of power connections in select locations, such camps should be held in all towns and big villages to clear all pending applications in this regard, he pointed out. He also suggested that monthly maintenance operations of substations and repairing power shutdowns by TANGEDCO should be set right within five hours. He also suggested that a separate divisional office should be established in Pernambut and Ambur with every two revenue districts having a chief engineer’s post as against one post for every four districts.
