ARIYALUR : IN the wake of communal tension between two caste groups over hosting a temple festival in Silambur of Jayankondam taluk in Ariyalur district, the Jayankondam tahsildar on Sunday imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to avoid untoward incidents.
Sources said a dispute has been brewing between the Dalits and villagers belonging to Most Backward Classes since last year, while conducting the Aadi festival at the Ayyanar temple, being managed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
“We have imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the village for 30 days from Sunday. It was imposed based on police inputs. Adequate force has been deployed to avoid untoward incidents,” Tahsildar Thirumaran told Express..
