Book throws light on Chola kingdom's economics

CHENNAI: History books record that Cholas have made a huge impact on all spheres of life — governance, art, religion  and letters. A new book, titled ‘Cholanomics’ authored by Ram Sankar, reinforces that message but also places key emphasis on the socio-economic policies enacted during their reign. The idea to do research on Cholas came to Sankar after he read the historical novel Ponniyin Selvan written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. He followed it up with reading Cholas, a book written by noted scholar and historian K A Nilakanta Sastri. The term ‘Cholanomics’, the writer explains, “refers to the economic and social policies pursued by the Cholas that contributed to accelerated economic expansion and inclusive social growth.”
