TIRUCHY: Perambalur municipality won the second best municipality of the State award for the various developmental initiatives taken by the civic body administration last year. Municipality and civic body representatives said that bio-methanation plant and roads laid of plastic bitumen helped them achieve this feat. Speaking to Express, C Ramesh, municipality chairman, said, “The main reason for our getting an award is the complete and holistic development we achieved in the past one year in various fields such as Solid Waste Management System, plastic roads and Underground Drainage System.” “The administration had set up a bio-methenation plant at a cost of `1.39 crore. With the electricity generated through plant, we are powering a 16 HP motor to supply potable water to locals,” Ramesh said.
