VILLUPURAM: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for kidnapping a girl.

Kavitha (15, name changed) of Porapdakuruchi near Kallakuruchi was a Class X student of a government high school at Emapper. She fell in love with S Chinnamani (26) of the same village.

Kavitha’s father Chinnadurai warned her against her relationship with Chinnamani. On August 16, she left for school, but did not return. When her father went to the school, he found that she did not attend classes that day. He learnt that Kavitha met Chinnamani that morning.

Chinnadurai then visited the youth’s house, but found that even he was missing. Chinnadurai approached the Kallakuruchi police station, where a kidnap case was filed against Chinnamani. Police found that the youth took Kavitha to Kallakuruchi, and brought them back on Thursday. They were produced before the Ulundurpet court, which sent the girl to her parents and ordered the youth be remanded in Cuddalore jail.
