CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general council meeting on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution to hand over the party leadership to VK Sasikala, the close aide of late leader J Jayalalithaa. The resolution further said until Sasikala is elected as general secretary of the party as per section 20 (2), she will function as the general secretary.
The resolution was moved by party's presidium chairman E Madhusudanan and other senior leaders and seconded by all members of the general council.
The resolution said in the absence of former Chief Minister and general secretary J Jayalalithaa, it would be inevitable to hand over the mantle to someone who has experience and capability. "As such, the general council hands over the leadership of the party to VK Sasikala, who followed Jayalalithaa during the past 33 years and has wide experience in managing the party affairs."
The resolution also vowed to be loyalty the party leadership at this critical moment. "We saw MGR in the person of Amma and now let us see Jayalalithaa in the person of Chinnamma," the resolution added.
After the general council meeting is over, senior leaders of the party will hand over the copy of the resolution to Sasikala at Poes Garden.
Other resolutions included urging for efforts to bestow Ramon Magsaysay Award and Nobel Prize for Jaya, who died earlier this month after a long hospital stay.
