CHENNAI: The DMK and many opposition parties, which have joined hands for a bandh, on Saturday  launched a scathing attack on the BJP government at the Centre as well as the Edappadi K Palaniswami’s government in the State charging both with ignoring the welfare of farmers and other sections of society.  They also urged the people to make April 25 bandh, in support of farmers’, a success.

Speaking at a public meeting organised by DMK at Mylapore to explain the bandh, a few leaders expressed the wish that ‘the togetherness’ among the parties present at the meeting should continue in the coming days in the interest of people.

DMK working president MK Stalin said those in power in Tamil Nadu were particular about clinging to power and to play fiddle to the BJP government at the Centre. Referring to the remark of CPI State secretary R Mutharasan that the present government in Tamil Nadu should be called ‘Modi’s benami government’, Stalin said he would hereafter continue to call it so.

He said the farmers agitating in Delhi had decided to suspend their agitation and take part in the April 25 bandh. “If the government is not taking any action after the bandh, these parties would stage many more agitations. The BJP should be taught a befitting lesson since it is betraying Tamil Nadu,” he said.
