NAGAPATTINAM: While Facebook page creators are adept at coming up with memes for every occasion, V Santhosh (24) in Nagapattinam is using his pages to create memes on agriculture and organic farming. As his memes teach how to grow organic crops, thousands of youth and agriculture activists are now followers of the page.Santhosh’s ‘Learn Agriculture’ and ‘Azvar’ pages educate his followers in crop cultivation and prevention of insect attacks.

“I did my BSc Agriculture from Annamalai University in 2015. After that, I went for a six-month training at Nammazhvar’s organic field in Karur. As I am active on social media, I was irritated with memes that mocked politicians and actors. So I started to make memes for social causes along with my friend and IT professional Mahim Antony through ‘Learn Agriculture’ (www.facebook.com/LearnAgri/) and ‘Nammazhvar Veriyan’ (www.facebook.com/AzhvarMemes/),” Santhosh told Express.

On the number of memes he has posted so far, he said, “I started last March. I posted one or two memes a day at the outset. But after the arrival of Bigg Boss on a Tamil private channel, I felt bad as many meme-makers who used to create memes in support of Jallikkattu, Kathiramangalam and Neduvasal shifted to creating Bigg Boss memes. So, I now post at least four agriculture-related memes a day. So far, we have created about 400 memes.”
