Politics of resort again, this time MLAs shepherded to Pondy

PUDUCHERRY: Much like the political development earlier this year, when V K Sasikala shepherded party MLAs to a resort in Koovathur on the outskirts of Chennai to avoid poaching by the rebel camp, 18 of the 19 legislators, who threw their lot with the party’s chucked deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran, were taken to a resort in Puducherry.

As was the motive then, the present  move is aimed at keeping the flock together to ward off the advances from either Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami or Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s supporters. The legislators are lodged in the Windflower Resort and Spa in the coastal village of Chinna Veerampattinam.

It may be noted that these legislators have given separate letters to Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, withdrawing support to the Palaniswami government. All of them, but MLA Vetrivel, arrived here separately. Some of them came single while rest of them in small groups of two or three in cars around 6 pm onwards. Their booking is for two days, sources said.

When asked by the media, legislator Thanga Tamil Selvan said that they came to Puducherry to take rest and they felt that the particular resort was a good place for it.  Dhinakran is also expected to come here and meet the MLAs. Tamil Selvan said that they expected more MLAs to join them and hoped that a good decision would be arrived at soon.
