COIMBATORE: ALL retired employees who were getting special time-scale salaries in local bodies as well as government departments will be given a special monthly pension and lump-sum payment. Only mid-day meal and anganwadi workers were eligible for these till recently.

Now it has been extended to sanitary workers, sweepers, village librarians, police station cleaners, Forest Department’s plot watchers and other retired employees in the same category. An order released recently by the Finance Department said the government had decided to accept the recommendations of an official committee to grant the special monthly pension and lump-sum payment to them at the time of retirement. The recommendation has been made effective from October 1.

While the lump-sum payment would be `50,000 for police station cleaners, ayah in the Police Department, sweepers, sanitary workers and scavengers in both government departments and local bodies, it would be `1 lakh for Forest Department’s plot watchers and anti-poaching watchers as also village librarians.

Sanitary workers wiyh three years of service, but are being paid daily wages or consolidated pay also would be granted a special time scale of `1,300-3,000. They will also be paid a dearness allowance, house rent allowance, city compensatory allowance and annual increments.
