Four vehicles with weapons seized, but no arrest yet

The police have seized four abandoned vehicles with deadly weapons in connection with the murder of Singaram (52), a close aide of the slain Dalit leader Pasupathi Pandian, on Friday.

TIRUNELVELI : The police have seized four abandoned vehicles with deadly weapons in connection with the murder of Singaram (52), a close aide of the slain Dalit leader Pasupathi Pandian, on Friday.

A gang of 13 members murdered Singaram on Tirunelveli-Thoothukudi Bypass Road while he was being taken by the police from Palayamkottai prison.


Police sources said they have the CCTV footage, which has recorded the murder, also with them and are interrogating the owners of the cars for leads.

Since the supporters of Subash Pannaiyar, the president of All-India Nadar Padhukaappu Peravai, are suspected to be behind the murder the probe has been extended to southern districts and Chennai.

On Friday night, reports from Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts confirmed the abandonment of unknown vehicles as identical to the ones used by the assailants. Police have seized a mini truck, a multi-utility vehicle and two Sedan cars.
