14-year-old boxing player collapses on the ground, dies

THOOTHUKUDI: In a game that turned fatal, a 14-year-old girl, a boxing player, collapsed on the ground and died without responding to medicines here on Friday. 
 
The girl was identified as Mariswari (14), daughter of Kennedy, a daily wage labourer belonging to Mathavan Nagar near Korampallam. She was studying class IX at Soreespuram Government Higher Secondary School. 

Mariswari was participating in a boxing tournament conducted by the Sports Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) at Tharuvai Grounds here on Friday. She took part in the under-15 age group boxing championship.  

Sources said that Mariswari took time out when playing against her opponent in the open boxing stage set up for the tournament in the Tharuvai Grounds.

She suffered breathing trouble and collapsed on the ground. Her parents and staffs rushed her to a private hospital in VE Road and subsequently they were referred to Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, sources said. 

A doctor said that she was admitted into Government Hospital at 1.15 PM. She was then shifted to the emergency ward. But without responding to medical treatments, Mariswari died at 2.45 PM.

Reason for the death can be ascertained only when post mortem is done, the doctor added.
