COIMBATORE :To turn her fake pregnancy story into a real one, a 26-year-old woman from Pudukottai district attempted to steal a baby from Government Pollachi Hospital on Tuesday. She was arrested by the Pollachi police and was remanded in custody later in the night.
According to police, Karthika Jothi (26), wife of Sivasarathi and resident of Unchavelampatti, gave birth to a female baby at Pollachi GH on Tuesday.
Around 2 pm, relatives of Karthika Jothi caught Kutty alias Selvi, wife of Vignesh and a resident of North street, Pudukottai district, attempting to steal the baby. The baby’s mother was undergoing a checkup in another ward and one of her relatives was taking care of the baby.
Selvi confessed that she was staging a drama as she told her husband and relatives that she was pregnant. Selvi had apparently told them that she will be staying with sister till delivery. “Selvi married Vignesh one and a half years ago. However, the couple has no child. She was vexed after relatives pressurised her to have a baby,” said police.
