CHENNAI: Condemning the police attack on those holding a peaceful agitation for Jallikattu in certain places in Madurai district, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president S Thirunavukkarasar on Monday held the BJP responsible for the fiasco.

Talking to reporters here at the party headquarters, Sathyamoorthy Bhavan, he said BJP leaders were slinging mud on Congress, after being caught off guard due to the spontaneous outrage the ban on Jallikattu had evoked among youngsters.

"They are in a helpless position after spontaneous spirited protests by the youngsters. So, the BJP leaders are passing the buck to Congress in order to vent their ire. They must stop blaming us," Thirunavukkarasar said.

He also found fault with the AIADMK government for failing to take proactive steps to secure the nod for holding the bull taming sport.

The TNCC president announced that the Congress would hold a procession and picket the RBI office located on Rajaji Salai here on January 20 as part of the nation-wide protest against demonetisation.
