Drought assessment team meets Chief Minister

CHENNAI: The 10-Menber Central team led by Vasudha Mishra, managing director, National Cooperative Development Corporation held detailed talks with Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, the Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and senior officials on the losses caused by drought.

A powerpoint  presentation was made at the Secretariat.


The team is split into four groups. A couple of the groups had already begun visiting drought-hit districts from Sunday.

These groups would complete their visits on January 25. During the meeting, the Chief Minister requested the team to tour the State extensively and see for themselves the severity of the situation and the extent of losses.

He said the team should also keep in view the fact that the State was badly affected by cyclone Vardah on December 12, 2016. Panneerselvam requested liberal assistance from the Central government to tackle the situation.
