CHENNAI: With in hours after a class 9 girl was allegedly raped and killed in her Thiruporur house, the police arrested a man living in the same locality.The victim, living in a village near Tiruporur, was found dead on Sunday with her throat slit and injuries on her body that suggested sexual assault before being murdered.On Monday, police said one L Ashok (24), a neighbour, had raped the victim after learning she was alone in the house.
Police said, the neighbours spotted a man clad in a black T-shirt walking out of the victim’s house on Sunday evening. Soon after the body was recovered, sniffer dogs were pressed into action. A special team was formed who nabbed the suspect from the same locality.
A senior police officer said, the victim was alone at home, when Ashok entered her house, gagged and raped her. “Afraid of being caught he slit her throat and escaped from the scene,” said the officer. Police said, he was known to the family.
The victim was studying in class 9 in a nearby government school. Her father died recently and she is survived by her mother Malaiveli and her married elder sister and an elder brother.
“The girl’s mother, a house maid in Siruseri had left for work on Sunday while her brother and sister had gone to their relatives’ house. The victim’s siblings came at around 7.30 pm, found the girl’s body,” the officer added.Police came and sent the body to Chengalpet Government Hospital for autopsy.
Ashok, a native of Uthiramerur lived with his family and was unemployed. .
