Hurdles over, Kilambakkam bus terminus plan in full swing

The foundation stone for the proposed bus terminus for south bound buses on 88 acres in Kilambakkam is likely to be laid in the first week of September.

CHENNAI: The foundation stone for the proposed bus terminus for south bound buses on 88 acres in Kilambakkam is likely to be laid in the first week of September.

This was disclosed at the review meeting under the State Housing and Urban Development minister Udumalai Radhakrishnan last week. The minister wanted the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the consultant CR Narayana Rao submitted soon.

The consultant had begun sending letters to all the State departments for various details. The consultant also wanted operational details of the existing Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT), Koyambedu and also in the proposed new bus terminus at Kilambakkam, which includes the proposed total number of buses, departure and arrival and number of trips from the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) and State Transport Corporation.

The consultant also wanted land and patta details from the district administration as well as planned widening of roads in the area from the National Highway Authority.

The proposal is also facing a hurdle as the site lies in the protected zone of the Archaeological Survey of India and officials are ensuring minimum development there. This comes as the CMDA is planning to create a hub as in Koyambedu that includes a market or any other commercial venture on the land belonging to Arulmigu Nadeeswarar Temple, near Guduvanchery about 2km to 3km from the proposed bus terminus.
