CHENNAI: Of the 31 people arrested in connection with throwing stones on the Pachaiyappa’s College principal, only one was found to be the student of the college and rest were either former students or youth hailing from neighbourhood, police said.

On Friday, college principal S Kaliraj was at the entrance of the college when stones were pelted on him apparently since the students were unhappy with the strict checking of  identity cards before allowing anyone into the campus.

Kaliraj suffered mild injuries and the police took custody of 31 youth of the group that is believed to have pelted stones on the principal.

“Only one of them is a second-year BBA student of the college. Ten were former students and others had no connection with college,” said a police officer.
