Rs 1 lakh stolen from textile shop owner

Around `1.7 lakh in cash was from stolen from two cars in different incidents in the city on Saturday.

CHENNAI: Around `1.7 lakh in cash was from stolen from two cars in different incidents in the city on Saturday. The police said, a textile shop owner Kunal (42) of Shenoy Nagar had `one lakh with him and was driving through 100 Feet Road in Vadapalani on Saturday night. “As Kunal was driving, he spotted his friend on the opposite side. He stopped the car and crossed the road to meet him.

Then two men allegedly broke the car’s window and took the bag,” said police. The passers-by who witnessed the incident chased the two and nabbed one of them, identified as Ashok (35) of Andhra Pradesh. Following this, Kunal handed over Ashok at Vadapalani Police Station. A search is on for the robber’s associate.

In the second incident, around `70,000 was stolen from a senior citizen. Police said Ranganathan (65) of Mylapore was driving the car and pulled over near Thiruvengadam Street in Mandaveli to go to a shop. After the purchase, he left the bag with the money in the rear seat of the car and was walking towards to the driver’s seat.

“Two men on a motorcycle told Ranganathan that the bag with the money had fallen out. Believing this, the man went back to check the bag, but the duo managed to take the bag and escape,” said police. A case was registered.
