SALEM: An unidentified person hurled a slipper at BJP Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan when he was visiting the house of the deceased JNU Dalit scholar Muthukrishnan today to pay last tributes at Salem in Tamil Nadu.

Muthukrishnan's death in the country's premium Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi is now the centre of a storm of controversy with Dalit groups crying foul over what is alleged to be a suicide. Hailing from a Dalit family in Saminathapuram near Arisipalayam in Salem, Muthukrishnan, aged 30, was a PhD student at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

After the autopsy at AIIMS in Delhi, the body was airlifted to Chennai on Wednesday and reached his home today. Various political leaders were visiting the house to pay respects when a section of youth raised slogans against Pon Radhakrishnan.

When he was later addressing mediapersons, a slipper was hurled at him by an unidentified person. The slipper missed the minister and fell on TV camera mics in front of him. Police have picked up a few youth in connection with the incident, but have not revealed their identities.
