TIRUVANNAMALAI: A woman and her brother were arrested on charges of forgery after the former was caught red-handed while trying to join a government school as teacher with a forged appointment order in Vandavasi, south police said on Tuesday.

The arrested duo A Maheswari (36) and her brother Rajasekaran (32), hail from Cart Track Road of Ekkattuthangal, Chennai.

On Monday, Maheswari had gone to the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Vandavasi, submitted an appointment letter to the headmaster, which she claimed to have received from the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Tiruvannamalai.

The appointment letter read that she was appointed as an Assistant Graduate teacher for History at an existing vacancy.

Headmistress of the school, Banumathi, who did not receive any intimation from the CEO regarding the appointment, smelt something fishy and immediately rang up the CEO's office.

On seeing the appointment letter received through fax, V Jayakumar, CEO, confirmed that the appointment letter was not sent by him, and that his signature was forged. Acting on a complaint, police arrested Maheswari and her brother who helped her fake the letter.
