Six bridges, hospital buildings inaugurated

CHENNAI: Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has inaugurated through video conferencing at the secretariat on Wednesday the works of three departments -- health, social welfare and rural development. These included six bridges, hospital buildings and working women’s hostels.

The maternity ward in Dindigul Government Hospital, men’s and women’s wards, post-surgery ward and paediatric ward at Thirubhuvanam Government Hospital, Sivaganga district; new primary health centres in Vallipattu, Thamalerimuthur and Nagavedu (Vellore dt), Senkurichi and Seerpanendal (Villupuram dt), Velliagaram (Tiruvallur dt), Viswanatham (Virudhunagar dt), Thanampatti (Krishnagiri dt),  Karumbanur (Tirunelveli dt), Okkanadukeezhaiyur (Thanjavur dt) and upgraded primary health centres at Kollumedu (Tiruvallur dt), Alankudi (Tiruvarur dt) and Lalapet (Vellore dt) were among those opened by the chief minister. All these works were for Rs 13.40 crores.

He also inaugurated a dormitory for working women, built by the social welfare department for Rs 1 crore at Tamabaram. This would benefit 80 students taking teacher training. Besides, he declared open a Government women’s hostel for working women at Perambalur for Rs 1.01 crores.

The chief minister also inaugurated six bridges in various parts of the State, built for Rs 10.39 crores which included fly-overs at Ramapuram across Kosasthalai river in Tiruvallur district; Markandaiyan river at Veppanahalli; at Karimangalam connecting Chettiyarkottai and Poomathanahalli; bridge on Madappuram-Theli Road; bridge across Valappar river in Tiruvarur district, and another bridge on Valappar river at Sarvamaniyam.
