Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami invites Modi to unveil Jaya portrait in State Assembly

Chief Minister also invited Modi to be the chief guest at the valedictory function to mark the centenary celebrations of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran in December.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister ‘Edappadi’ K Palaniswami on Wednesday invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil the portrait of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the State Assembly hall in July and also be the chief guest at the valedictory function to mark the centenary celebrations of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran in December.

The Chief Minister also wrote letters on behalf of the State government to the Prime Minister regarding these two events.

“I seek your convenience to grace the occasion on any day during the month of July 2017 as the chief guest of the function to be held in the Assembly Chamber and to unveil the portrait of the late Chief Minister,” Palaniswami said in his letter to Modi.

In another letter, he said Tamil Nadu will celebrate the birth centenary of  MGR with various events organised throughout the year in all the 32 districts. “As a culmination of these events, a huge public function is proposed to be organised in Chennai, between December 15 and December 31, where nearly three to five lakh people are expected to participate,” he said and requested the Prime Minister to grace the occasion as the chief guest and indicate a convenient date for his participation.

Unveiling of portrait in July
The function to  unveil the portrait of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will be held in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Chamber in the month of July, says Palaniswami in his letter to Modi.
