CHENNAI: With the rise in temperature and unbearable heat, school education department has announced that schools will reopen only on June 7 instead of June 1. This followed requests from parents.
While students and parents are relieved, some teachers feel that if the temperature doesn’t fall even after seven days, there will not be any difference. According to a school education department official, schools will reopen on June 7.”Due to the unbearable summer heat, we have extended the reopening date from June 1 to June 7 after requests from parents.”

A Chemistry teacher in Gummidipoondi Girls Higher Secondary school requesting anonymity said that in the school building, after noon, the heat is unbearable.
“This is a relief. But after seven days, if the heat is same, it won’t make any difference. After 12, it is difficult to stay in the classroom as we don’t have proper  infrastructure, ”he said.
Nithya B,  a parent, said it will be a relief for students if  schools reopen after a week. “As a parent we are happy the government has extended the reopening date. But my daughter and her friends request to extend the reopening by more than a week”, she said.
The headmaster of a private school at Ambattur said there would not be any difference by extending the date of reopening.

“We have proper infrastructure. But for government schools, it is difficult to continue in this hot summer. We used to conduct special classes in April, but this year due to government order there were no special classes. Students are enjoying the holiday for more than two-and-a-half months. We have to finish the syllabus also. Students alone will be in trouble later,” he said.
