Pastor accused of trafficking nabbed on arrival in Chennai

A Tiruchy-based pastor accused of human trafficking through his orphanage was arrested by the CBI in Chennai early on Saturday.

TIRUCHY: A Tiruchy-based pastor accused of human trafficking through his orphanage was arrested by the CBI in Chennai early on Saturday. The pastor, 62-year-old Gideon Jacob, had been on the run for several years. He was reportedly whisked away for interrogation upon his arrival from Germany on Monday.

Mose Ministries, the orphanage founded by Jacob, had been embroiled in controversy since 2015 for housing 89 girls without necessary authorisation.

The home claimed the girls were from the villages around Usilampatti in Madurai district and had been rescued from female infanticide.

Ever since, Jacob was on the run, following which a look out circular was raised by KK police a year ago.  After his arrest, the CBI special team produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in charge at Khajamalai and lodged in the central prison.
