VELLORE: A TTE sustained minor injuries after he was assaulted and pushed out of the Yesvantpur - Howrah Superfast Express, near Katpadi station during the wee hours of Thursday.According to police sources, the incident occurred in S12 coach when Santhosh Kumar from Bengaluru, the TTE, during routine ticket check found that two passengers were not carrying proper ID. Since it is mandatory to carry the prescribed identity proof for tickets booked online, the TTE asked the passengers to pay the fine for failure to do so. The enraged duo refused to pay the penalty and an argument ensued.

The duo with four others, all from Odisha, who were travelling in a group, then allegedly roughed up TTE Santhosh Kumar and threw him out of the running train. Since the train was travelling in a slow speed, the TTE escaped with minor injuries.

Santhosh Kumar immediately informed the Katpadi railway police about the incident; however, the train had crossed Katpadi by then and the railway protection force then alerted the Tirupati railway police.
When the train was near Chittoor railway station, one assailant. Manik (19), was nabbed and brought to Katpadi. He is being investigated. The other five however managed to escape. The police have launched a hunt to find others who managed to escape.
