CHENNAI: Following scathing criticism and outrage over the lack of resemblance of the newly-erected statue with the late Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa, Minister for Fisheries D Jayakumar on Sunday said steps would be taken to make necessary modifications to the statue. Talking to reporters here, he said the party was aware of the criticism over the lack of resemblance of the statue, erected on the premises of the party’s headquarters here in Chennai, with the late leader.

“By respecting the views expressed on social media, the party’s leadership will decide on the modifications needed to be done on the statue,” he stated, adding that it was a sign of good culture to give respect to critical views. Jayalalithaa’s statue erected on Saturday led to widespread criticism in social media for its poor resemblance with the late leader. Many equated the image to several others, including Tamil poetess Avvaiyar, and demanded a replacement.
