CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has granted Rs 50 lakh as the State government’s contribution for conducting WSF World Junior Squash Championship scheduled to be held in Chennai from July 18 to 29 at Squash Academy and at Express Avenue Mall.

The CM handed over the cheque for Rs 50 lakh to N Ramachandran, president, Tamil Nadu Squash Rackets Association, at the Secretariat on Monday.As many as 171 players from 28  countries including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany,
Hong Kong, China, India, Iran, Ireland, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan,  Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, United States of America and Zimbabwe would participate in the championship events. Of them, 12 players are from India.

Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development P Balakrishna Reddy, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and senior officials were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the CM also inaugurated a multipurpose indoor stadium, library, laboratory, conference hall, meditation hall etc. that were constructed at a total cost of Rs 16.03 crore in the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University at Melakottaiyur in Kancheepuram district, through the video-conferencing facility at the secretariat.
