CHENNAI: Functionaries in actor Rajinikanth’s fans club were told not to expect MP or MLA seats just because they were in the club for long. District-level functionaries of Rajini Makkal Mandram are currently camping in Chennai for consultations.

It is reliably learnt that the main point conveyed to the functionaries was that they should not expect tickets for themselves when the actor’s party would contest in elections.“Those who are members of the fans club for the last several decades should not lay claim to party tickets (during elections) citing their experience. Only our ‘thalaivar’ will decide who will contest on the party tickets,” said a functionary. The functionaries were told that they must instead work on enrolling the adequate number of members for the fans club before it could be made a political party.

But what is puzzling to many die-hard fans of Rajini was the indication that long-time members of the club would not be preferred when it comes to fielding candidates. “When Rajini enters politics, there will be a huge wave in his support. Then, why should they consider the financial background of the candidates,” said another functionary who is unhappy by the indication given?
