Convene first CWMA meet: PMK

PMK founder S Ramadoss on Tuesday urged the Union Water Resources Ministry to convene the first meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority immediately without waiting for Karnataka to nominate

CHENNAI: PMK founder S Ramadoss on Tuesday urged the Union Water Resources Ministry to convene the first meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority immediately without waiting for Karnataka to nominate its members as Tamil Nadu was badly in need of water for the kuruvai crop.  Besides, due to the southwest monsoon, the storage level in reservoirs in the Cauvery river in Karnataka would go up within a few days to 25 tmcft which would be sufficient to release water to Tamil Nadu.

In a statement here, Ramadoss said Tamil Nadu had to get 10 tmc in June and 24 tmc in July as per the final verdict of the Cauvery tribunal and hence, the CWMA should direct Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu immediately and that it should not divert the water available for its own use ahead of releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
