The Madras High Court has imposed a cost of `50,000 on the tahsildar, North Taluk Office in Tirupur, for not implementing the orders of his superiors and failing to appear before the High Court.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has imposed a cost of `50,000 on the tahsildar, North Taluk Office in Tirupur, for not implementing the orders of his superiors and failing to appear before the High Court despite repeated notices.

Justice T Raja imposed the cost on the tahsildar, while passing interim orders on a writ petition from Jeyakodi, on June 14 last. According to advocate M Velmurugan, Jeyakodi had applied for patta for a property in Tirupur district, and the District Revenue Officer issued necessary orders. This order was confirmed by the Collector.

However, the tahsildar did not take any action till date. Aggrieved, Jeyakodi moved the High Court. When the matter came up on April 16 this year, the judge directed him to show cause. However, the tahsildar did not respond to this order. An irked judge noted that the tahsildar had not even bothered to file an affidavit. “Taking serious note of his conduct, this court is constrained to impose the cost of ` 50,000 payable from his own pocket to the petitioner,” the judge said.
