Yoga goes the hospital way at Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu

CHENNAI: The National Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy Medical Sciences will be established at the government Chengalpattu Medical College campus at the cost of Rs 60 crore in 50 acres of land, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, making the announcement in the Assembly under rule 110 on Monday.

The CM said that undergraduate and postgraduate courses in yoga and naturopathy would be started at the National Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy Medical Sciences. Also world class care in therapeutic yoga as well naturopathy, particularly for chronic diseases as well as non-communicable lifestyle diseases, would be provided at the institute.

Moreover, a hospital with research unit, hostel for students and quarters for employees will also be constructed at the institute, he said.Palaniswami said that 985 health sub-centres would be converted into integrated health and wellness centres at the cost of Rs 82.2 crore.

A sum of Rs 55.55 crore will be allotted for the construction of 4th to 6th floors in the under-construction speciality building at the Government Stanley Government Medical College Hospital. An amount of Rs 42.88 crore will be allotted for construction of 5th to 8th floors in out-patient block at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. An additional building will be constructed in Sirkazhi.
