AMMK functionary booked under IT Act for defaming IT Minister Manikandan on Facebook

The complaint stated that Dhinakaran's supporter was posting defamatory contents against the Minister for his direction to the Joint Director of Health Services, Ramanathapuram to transfer a surgeon.

RAMANATHAPURAM: Paramakudi police today registered a case against an office bearer of TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK under sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly posting defamatory content on his Facebook page against IT Minister M Manikandan here on Friday.

Police said that the case had been registered against AMMK functionary Mariselvam based on the complaint received from AIADMK's town secretary M Muthupandi who stated that Dhinakaran's supporter was posting defamatory contents against the Minister for his direction to the Joint Director of Health Services, Ramanathapuram to transfer a surgeon from Government Headquarters Hospital, Ramanathapuram to Government Hospital, Thiruvadanai.

"We could also find some controversial post in Mariselvam's Facebook page that defamed the woman who protested against the marriage of MP Anwhar Raajhaa's son a few weeks ago," said, the police.

Mariselvam has been booked under section 294 (b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of IPC and 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form)of IT Act.
