COIMBATORE: The first three phase energy efficient Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) coaches built with stainless steel bodies were rolled out by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) here on Friday.
The train was flagged off by Senior Section Engineer Saseedharan in the presence of former railway board officials B Dasarathy and Vijaya Kanth at the factory’s furnishing division.

The MEMU rake has been provided with modular toilets in every coach. The carrying capacity of trailer coaches is 325 with 84 seats, while the motor coaches which has 55 seats can carry upto 226 passengers. Thus, the rake can carry about 2,402 passengers per trip. Explaining the additional features of the rake, official sources said, the coaches have been provided with CCTV for enhanced passenger safety. In addition, GPS based Passenger Information System (PIS) and Passenger Address System (PAS) also have been provided in all coaches. “The loco pilot cabin also has been provided with CCTV cameras,” the official added.
