Apollo meet on ortho care sheds light on latest technologies

CHENNAI: The second edition of two-day Apollo COSMIC 2018, an international congress on orthopaedics and sports medicine organised by Apollo Institutes of Orthopaedics, was inaugurated here on Friday. The experts in the field will discuss the latest update on the ortho care. Robotic knee-replacement surgery is one of the highlights of the conference.

“Apollo Hospitals is in the process of getting robotic knee replacement. A few of the advantages of robotic knee replacement is that the patient will get better care, comfort and lesser pain, and it also improves accuracy when compared to conventional surgery, “ said consultant-orthopaedic surgeon Dr Kunal Patel. 

Dr Madan Mohan Reddy, senior consultant-orthopaedic surgeon, said, “Patients are also looking for fast recovery, less hospital stay and want to get back to social and recreational activities. Orthopaedics specialty has developed today and is offering unique procedures to patients including knee surgery assisted with robotic navigation. The robotic navigation also provides immediate post-operative recovery”.

The doctors also said the knee replacement surgeries had increased from 9,000 in 2013 to 20,000 now. Also, they started to see young patients who also want to get back to social and recreational activities apart from implant that has long life.
