CHENNAI: The  Southern Railway is hoping to achieve 10 per cent target of all unreserved ticket sales through the UTS mobile app by the end of this financial year where it remains only 4.5 per cent now.
Speaking to reporters here, Priamvada Vishwanathan, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, said that when the Southern Railway introduced suburban ticket booking in Chennai area through UTS mobile app, the unreserved tickets sales using UTS mobile app was only 2 per cent. But later it rolled out UTS for all stations, and achieved 4.5 per cent of UTS sales.

“Still, 95 per cent unreserved tickets are booked at counters. Our aim is that by the end of this financial year, we achieve 10 per cent of all UTS sales,” said Priamvada. She further said that by November 1, passengers may not have to take print-outs of tickets booked using UTS mobile app as the UTS mobile app will be launched across the system.

Meanwhile, to make the unreserved train ticket booking easier for passengers, the Southern Railway has introduced the QR code system over the entire suburban section of the Chennai area to enable the passengers to book paperless tickets in case of weak mobile network.“The QR code posters will be displayed at the entrance of all Chennai suburban railway stations and in a few days, all other railways stations will be covered,” Priamvada added.

Passengers who are using UTS mobile app can scan QR code. The tickets can be booked within one km from the journey-commencing station. Passengers cannot book the tickets on train or at platforms. Passengers will have to select the QR code option in the booking menu and select journey by RQ, then give the details of the station, class of travel and number of passengers.
