CHENNAI: Raising the question why the originally proposed Chennai-Madurai green corridor was changed to the Chennai-Salem greenfield corridor at the eleventh hour, the Madras High Court has set October 30 as the deadline for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to submit all files pertaining to the Chennai-Salem green corridor project.

A division bench passed the interim order while hearing a batch of pleas against land acquisition for the Chennai-Salem project.“In the counter-affidavit filed by the NHAI it has been stated that work of preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for 336-km road, which includes 253 km of the Chennai-Salem greenfield alignment, has been awarded to Feedback Infra Private Limited.

The court then directed the NHAI Project Director, Kancheepuram to place the files concerning the bids received on November 6, 2017 along with the connected records before the court.

“During the course of hearing of these pleas, we have noticed that offers were called for, for preparation of the DPR for the Chennai-Madurai corridor project and Feedback Infra had submitted a bid for the said corridor and it is only when the proceedings were on, there was a change from the Chennai-Madurai economic corridor to the Chennai-Salem corridor, which is prima facie seen from the first draft feasibility report,” the bench added.
