Former Rajya Sabha MP Vasanthi Stanley passes away

MK Stalin condoling the death of Vasanthi Stanley said she had voiced the party's views in the House on various important issues.

CHENNAI: The DMK’S former Rajya Sabha MP and the party’s State women minority wing’s president Vasanthi Stanley died on Saturday night after a brief illness. Vasanthi Stanley, a native of Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district, had served as DMK’s Rajya Sabha member from 2008 to 2014. She had also served as a member of various parliamentary committees.

She was serving as the State president of DMK’s women minorities wing for the last several years and was known as a staunch loyalist of Kanimozhi, daughter of M Karunanidhi. She wrote several articles in ‘Murasoli’, the DMK’s mouthpiece, over the rights and duties of minorities and highlighted the party’s achievements over the welfare of minorities. She died at a private hospital here on Saturday night after a brief illness. She is survived by her adopted son.

Following the news of her demise, hundreds of DMK cadre along with party president MK Stalin, paid floral tribute to her at her residence at Lloyds Colony, Royapet in Chennai. Stalin conveyed his condolences to her family members, friends and party cadre.
According to sources, her body will be taken to Palayamkottai and would be buried on Monday morning after performing customary rituals.
