Even as former DMK south zone organising secretary M K Alagiri is reaching out to the people to consolidate his position in Madurai region, Stalin supporters on Tuesday submitted applications with the party high command to field Stalin for the Madurai Parliamentary constituency.

The Madurai district urban secretary G Thalapathy along with former minister Tamilarasi, former DMK district secretary V Velusamy and a functionary Jeyaraman were among those who submitted the applications. Besides, Velusamy has also given another application in his name for the Madurai constituency, while Thalapathy has sought the  Virudhunagar parliamentary constituency.

Alagiri loyalists who accompanied him to Kariyapatti village to attend a marrige function of DMK Virudhunagar deputy secretary S M Bose’s relative were shocked when they learned about it.

“Anjanenjan is currently the MP for the constituency. Stalin’s supporters are deliberately filing nomination in the latter’s name with the intention of insulting our leader,” they said.

However, Stalin supporters do not appear least worried about the reaction from Alagiri camp.

Meanwhile, another team comprising members from 13 DMK Panchayat unions of Madurai rural unit headed by its secretary P Moorthy have left for Chennai on Tuesday evening to submit applications for the Lok Sabha poll.

“Many functionaries will by filing nomination for the Madurai parliamentary constituency in the name of DMK chief Karunanidhi and treasurer Stalin,” claimed a Stalin supporter.

Besides, senior DMK functionary Sedapatti Muthiah would be seeking the Theni constituency, while former Thirumunagalam MLA Latha and senior Thirumunagalam functionaries Sridharan and Murugan will apply for Virudhunagar tomorrow at the party headquarters.
