DMK’s daughter richer thrice over in 6 years

The net worth of DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi - caught in the 2G scam vortex - more than tripled in six years, according to her own admission. According to an affidavit she filed along with her nomination papers for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls, the total worth of

her movable and immovable assets leapfrogged from Rs 8.56 crore in 2007 to Rs 26.67 crore now.

Kanimozhi also claimed she had loaned Rs 1.31 crore to her mother, Rajathi Ammal.  In 2011, her dad and DMK president M Karunanidhi, in the affidavit filed along with his nomination papers for the Assembly elections, had stated that Rajathi Ammal took a loan of Rs 1,01,76,503 from Kanimozhi. Kanimozhi’s affidavit too perhaps mentions the same amount plus interest.

Her affidavit shows an income of Rs 1,86,57,420 during 2011-12, and values her moveable assets at Rs 16,67,40,456. The moveable assets include: a Range Rover (2013) worth Rs 61.74 lakh and a Toyota Altis (2010) worth Rs 16.32 lakh. The current value of her jewellery collection is  Rs18 lakh. She has 50,000 shares in Westgate Logistics and 20,02,000 shares in Kalaignar TV Private Limited, which together are worth Rs 2,05,20,000.

Kanimozhi’s total bank deposits and savings stand at Rs 12,40,26,836. The current market value of her immoveable assets is Rs 10.10 crore and her total liabilities stand at Rs 69,60,524.

In 2007, she had declared fixed deposits with Indian Bank amounting Rs 6.4 crore and two savings bank accounts with cash amounting to Rs18.48 lakh. Besides, she had a Toyota Camrey worth Rs 18.7 lakh. She also had 360 gm of gold and 10 carats of diamonds worth Rs 3.61 lakh and shares in Westgate Logistics worth Rs 3.5 lakh.

That apart, a commercial building on Anna Salai valued at Rs 1.61 crore was also mentioned. Her husband Aravinthan had a house on one-acre land in Athikottai worth Rs 10 lakh.
