Puducherry Women Employees and Workers Federation on Thursday urged the administration to take immediate steps to implement the legislation introduced by the Centre against sexual harassment of women and children in the Union Territory.

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, enacted to ensure safety of women and children at all levels was notified by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The government is yet to constitute complaint committees to look into sexual harassment complaints comprising departmental and institutional staff, said G Indra, general secretary of the federation, at a press conference. She demanded immediate constitution of the committe. She  alleged that in workplace, women were facing harassment.
