Positioning herself as a strong leader and seeking an opportunity to change the course of the nation, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday told the AIADMK cadre that winning all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry would be paramount to accomplishing this mission.

“The country is moving in a wrong direction now... you (the AIADMK cadre) should discharge your fieldwork in such a manner as to win all 40 Lok Sabha seats, which would strengthen my efforts and political steps to change the course of the nation. Definitely, we will win all 40 seats,” she said amidst applause from the cadre.

The AIADMK chief made this remark while attending the weddings of the sons of Housing Minister R Vaithilingam and AIADMK MLA A K Bose here, both of which were held at the same venue.

Jayalalithaa’s mentor and former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran, she recalled, had faced numerous challenges and made the AIADMK the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.

Similarly, after his demise, she too had faced many conspiracies hatched by an ‘evil force’. Only by being bold and taking things in her stride did she assume the office of the Chief Minister for the third time and do good for the people, she said. The CM was driving home the point that she is a strong leader. Jayalalithaa has been reiterating the importance of winning all 40 LS seats. The first time she expressed this was two years ago. “If we could make it to the Lok Sabha, we will be the determining force....and we need not be begging for our rights including water issues,” she had then said, hinting at the Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar issues.

Significantly, Jayalalithaa has ruled out any alliance ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
