A total of 267 workers at  Rajiv Gandhi Women and Children’s Hospital will be thrown out of their jobs in  another three months as the government has decided not to renew their contract after that.

The contract for workers, coming under group D, expired on Friday. However, the government  decided to extend the contract for another three months after which it would invite fresh bids through e-tender, sources in the government said.

The contract was outsourced  three years ago at the rate of Rs 26.62 lakhs per month for executing six different types of works that include electrical, plumbing, security, laundry, gardening and landscaping and sanitary work. The annual expenditure works out to Rs 3.19 crores.

The reason behind the government decision to renew it last minute was that there has been a delay in executing the process and appointing a fresh contractor before the expiry date, owing to lack of consensus at the higher levels in the administration, sources added.
