A day after his suspension from the primary membership of the party, former Union minister and son of DMK patriarch, M Alagiri, continued his diatribe against the outfit saying that there was no need for him to field rebel candidates as the party was going to lose the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections by itself.

Speaking to reporters at his Injambakkam residence, Alagiri claimed that there were irregularities in the recently held party elections, which saw his loyalists in many of the district units being replaced by supporters of M K Stalin last year. He said he would expose them during his press meet in Madurai on January 31.

Stating that the suspension was the result of his taking up the matter with the high command, Alagiri said, “The disciplinary move against me is the prize I got for taking up the issue of irregularities.”

When questioned if pasting of posters carrying rebellious messages was the reason behind his suspension, Alagiri shot back asking whether its was such a grave mistake.

“When Thalaivar (Karunanidhi) is still around, some are pasting posters calling themselves future party president and chief minister. Why has no action been initiated against them?” he asked, in an apparent reference to supporters of Stalin.

Alagiri said he had already made it clear that he would not contest the Lok Sabha elections. He added that he had no intention of fielding rebel candidates as “DMK will lose on its own”.
