HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao favoured renaming the New Delhi- Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh Express train as Telangana Express. After bifurcation of the state, Telangana is in the process of changing the names of institutions named after legends and leaders of Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, it wants the name of the AP Express also to be changed.

Observing that the train got its present name when undivided Andhra Pradesh existed with Hyderabad as its capital, he felt that continuing with the same after formation of Telangana is not proper.

The Express train does not pass through any part of Andhra Pradesh and as it originates from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state, the CM wants the train to be named as Telangana Express. He also sought renaming Telangana Express, which runs between Hyderabad and Sirpur Kagaznagar (in Adilabad district) as Komaram Bheem Express.

Rao would write a letter to the Union railway ministry soon seeking the two changes, a release from the Chief Minister’s Office said here on Thursday.
