'Jabardasth' Fame Actor Venu Attacked in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Tollywood comedian and ‘Jabardasth’ programme fame Venu Tillu alias Venu Wonders was reportedly attacked by a group of persons belonging to a particular community at Film Nagar here for allegedly indulging in ‘offensive portrayal’ of their caste in a comedy show, police said.

Both Venu and leaders of that community lodged complaints against each other with Banjara Hills police and police registered cases against both of them.

According to police, Venu is leading a team, Venu Wonders, in a comedy show of Jabardasth programme that is being aired by a vernacular TV channel. In a recently aired show, Venu and his team reportedly abused womenfolk belonging to that particular community.

The community elders brought the issue to the notice of the Film Chambers’ representatives. The elders in film Chamber asked Venu to visit Film Chamber office to solve the issue. Minutes after Venu reached the film chamber, a mob thrashed him,” said Banjara Hills sub-inspector Ashok Kumar.

The film chamber representatives alerted the police, who visited the place. Upon reaching the place, police took custody of Venu and others. Both Venu and community leaders lodged complaints against each other.

Venu told police that he played the role for a comedy show but not with an intention to hurt the community and any women.

The community leader Rama Rao alleged that the comedy show had deliberately humiliated women belonging to a section of community.

Based on the complaint, police registered cases under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC against Venu and 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC against Rama Rao and others.
